New consumer bankruptcy
On Friday 19 July 2019 The Sejm adopted an amendment to the bankruptcy law. The law will now go to the Senate. The new legislation aims at improving the current model of consumer bankruptcy and simplifying certain procedures.
During legislative work, representatives of business associations indicated that the proposed changes would enable debt relief for dishonest entities. In response to the allegations, the Ministry of Justice informed that the intention of the amendment is to “gradate the liability of the bankrupt depending on the degree of his or her guilt”.
In most cases, the new regulations would be in force within six months of their publication in the Journal of Laws.
