Summary of the first half of 2020

In the first half of 2020, courts declared only 3% more bankruptcies and restructuring than in the same period of 2019. This situation was influenced by aid programmes and the limited work of the court.

As experts point out, it is still impossible to determine the actual impact of the pandemic on the economy due to the aid programmes, which in many cases may have influenced the decision not to use restructuring measures yet at this stage and to file for bankruptcy.

Industry trends from the first quarter, which we wrote about when discussing the previous Coface report.

As far as the choice of proceedings is concerned, most of the bankruptcies are still declared. In the first half of the year, 257 of them were announced, which accounts for 57% of the total number of open bankruptcy and restructuring proceedings.
