The difficult situation of gastronomy
Another industry that is strongly affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is the food industry.
The Polish Gastronomy Chamber of Commerce (IGGP) warns that the catering industry is in a very difficult financial situation. As proof of this, he gives his calculations. According to them, the industry has already lost about PLN 30 billion. In addition, the forecasts are not optimistic. It is estimated that about 15,000 premises will be closed. This will entail the need to lay off approximately 250,000 employees.
It was due to several factors. First of all, eateries have very limited business opportunities. They only come down to handling take-away orders. Revenue from such activities is at the level of 5-10% of the daily, normal turnover. In addition, industry representatives also point to the negligible state aid and uncertainty related to the protracted lockdown in the catering industry.
These are real problems that affect even very famous restaurants. We wrote about it here.
