The difficult situation of the Polish carrier

The difficult situation of the Polish carrier.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, 2020 was extremely difficult for Polish airlines. It was noted that the number of passengers handled was three times smaller than in 2019. This prompted LOT representatives to start talks with lessors regarding the reduction of installments for planes and to submit requests to the Polish Development Fund (PFR) and the Polish government for financial support. The initiatives taken resulted in an agreement with the majority of lessors and obtaining public aid in the amount of PLN 3 billion.

Nevertheless, the current data for 2021 do not allow the conclusion that the situation is significantly improving. Therefore, steps are taken to mitigate the perceived effects, we are talking about: launching additional holiday destinations, simplifying and adapting the air fleet to the current conditions.

It is forecasted that only in 2022 LOT will start to compensate for the losses incurred.
