Labour crisis in transport and construction

Many Ukrainian citizens employed by Polish companies are returning to their country. The problem is particularly acute in the transport and construction sectors.

According to data from the Polish Association of Road Transport Employers, Polish transport companies employ 350,000 drivers. Of these, as many as 110,000, or nearly one-third, are citizens of Ukraine. As many as 30% of them have already returned to their country for the war. However, this is not the end of the story. According to Andrzej Bogdanowicz, General Director of the All-Poland Association of Road Transport Employers, some of these workers first bring their families to safety and only then plan to return to Ukraine. In his opinion, the loss of workers that Polish entrepreneurs will have to deal with due to the war cannot be made up.

The construction industry has the same problem. As a result, many companies are threatened with the suspension of contracts. The industry’s troubles are also exacerbated by the rising costs of construction materials.
