Fewer and fewer bankruptcy filings

Fewer and fewer bankruptcy filings

In 2021, the district courts received less than 4 thousand applications for bankruptcy of companies. A year earlier there were over 4.8 thousand.

However, last year’s data is incomplete, because at the beginning of December the National Debtors Register (KRZ) came into force. In this system 93 cases of company bankruptcies were registered.

The decrease in the number of bankruptcy applications may be due to the fact that some companies have chosen restructuring. In many cases, such a procedure is more beneficial than bankruptcy. In addition, many sole proprietors are opting for consumer bankruptcy. Companies that declare bankruptcy are entities that have no chance for profit and development.

The biggest number of bankruptcy petitions was filed in the Warsaw court (526). Next are Cracow, Poznan, Katowice and Gdansk.

This year there may be more bankruptcies than in 2021. More applications can be expected in the second half of this year. Bankruptcy threatens in particular companies that carry out agricultural production and transport industry. The reason for this are tax burdens as well as rising costs of energy and servicing financing.
