Amsterdam Trade Bank is owned by Russian oligarchs. After the invasion of Ukraine it lost many customers and got into financial trouble.
The owners tried to sell it, but without success. The bankruptcy of the bank will affect 26 thousand customers who kept there savings of more than 400 million euros. Since Friday, April 22, they had no access to their money. This caused quite a panic among them. The Dutch Central Bank said that the bank’s customers were guaranteed deposits of a maximum of €100,000 per saver.
One of the main shareholders of Amsterdam Trade Bank is Mikhail Friedman. He is an oligarch who is closely associated with Vladimir Putin. He has been subjected to sanctions.
