Expensive energy will plunge big companies

Energy price caps do not extend to large businesses that do not operate in energy-intensive industries. Many of them are threatened with bankruptcy.

The parliament recently passed limits on energy prices. However, they do not include large companies. Piotr Wolejko of the Federation of Polish Entrepreneurs warns that such companies are threatened with bankruptcy. This is because from the new year they will have to pay several times more for electricity than they do now. The bankruptcy of a large plant will be a tragedy for many people on a county scale. In turn, local government budgets may face collapse in such a situation.

Large companies with the problem of energy costs will have to cope on their own. According to experts, the solution may be to conclude long-term contracts for the purchase of energy. It is also worth investing in renewable energy sources. For this, however, simplification of procedures would be useful. A new approach to managing power grid development will also be needed. Entrepreneurs are calling for liberalization of the 10H rule regulating the distance of windmills from homes. Another demand is to unblock the possibility of implementing so-called direct lines. This would make it possible to connect a wind power plant to its customer, i.e. the company and its warehouses or offices. It will be possible without the involvement of third parties.
