Marie Zélie files for bankruptcy
The Marie Zélie dress manufacturing company filed for bankruptcy on October sixth.
The Gdansk-based apparel company implemented proceedings for approval of an arrangement in February this year. However, on October sixth, the court received a petition for its bankruptcy. The company’s debt may reach PLN 12 million. Of this, about PLN 52,000 is owed to a seamstress in Bangladesh, who has been waiting for the money since the beginning of the year.
Marie Zélie is a Gdansk-based clothing company that specialized in the production of dresses. The company had been in business for 5 years and positioned itself as a premium brand. It grew rapidly thanks to the community it had managed to build around the brand. By 2021, it employed 50 people.
Some time ago, it initiated a rescue operation in which shareholders bought its shares. The CEO assured that in 2024-2025, investors would be able to get out of their investment through an IPO or a buyout by a larger entity. Even now the CEO is arguing that this is not the end of the brand and is again asking for financial help.
