The number of consumer bankruptcies is falling

For the first time in history, a decrease in the number of consumer bankruptcies was recorded.

Every year, there is an increase in the number of consumer bankruptcies. This trend was expected to continue especially last year. Therefore, the current data turned out to be a big surprise. According to them, for the first time in history, in 2022, there was a decrease in the number of bankruptcies announced against natural persons by nearly 14.5%. Last year, such bankruptcy was declared against 15.6 thousand. people. Trying to find an explanation for this state of affairs, experts point to two reasons. First of all, last year it was definitely more difficult to take out loans and various types of loans. This made it possible to protect some consumers from incurring further liabilities that are difficult to repay. Secondly, we still have the so-called labor market and low unemployment. According to experts, both of these variables will continue to apply. Therefore, we should still expect a decrease in announced bankruptcies of individuals.

It is worth recalling that last year we systematically informed about the recorded data on consumer bankruptcy.
