The printed press market is shrinking

The printed press market is steadily shrinking.

The difficult situation beyond our eastern border, resulting from Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and the equally difficult economic situation resulting from constantly growing inflation, have an impact on the printed press market. Individual publishers are forced to make decisive decisions. Many of them decide to carry out restructuring activities in the form of liquidation of their titles. This is the case, for example, with Polska Press. The indicated publisher liquidated several dozen local titles. According to representatives of Polska Press, liquidation activities were preceded by a thorough analysis and ultimately led to: increasing the range of individual weeklies, modernizing their graphic design and sometimes increasing their volume.

The president of the Association of Local Newspapers tries to look for positives. He sees them in the need for publishers to adapt to the dynamically changing reality. He notes that publishers decide to move to the Internet and invest in the development of their titles there.

However, it should not be forgotten that corrective actions are not always enough. Some publishers are forced to take radical steps in the form of bankruptcy. This was the case with the publisher Motor-Presse Polska, for example.
