Layoffs at Zalando

Employment restructuring will be carried out in the German concern Zalando.

In 2008, the German e-commerce concern Zalando was founded, offering its customers primarily clothing and footwear. Since its inception, it has gained steadily growing popularity. Along with it, the organizational structure of the concern grew. And that’s the biggest problem right now. Well, the complexity of the aforementioned structure led to overstaffing and made it difficult to react quickly to the changing reality. Moreover, a change in consumer habits has been observed. And although the number of customers did not decrease, it was noticed that customers reduced their purchases. Thus, the interest in e-commerce, which was extremely high in the era of the coronavirus pandemic, has decreased. This, in turn, is the aftermath of the current uncertain economic situation. All this forced the owners of the company to decide on the need to develop and implement an employment restructuring plan. About 850 people have been announced to be made redundant, which is 5% of all employees.
