There is a systematic decline in the number of existing enterprises.
Two phenomena are responsible for the mentioned decline. First of all, the number of failing companies is systematically increasing. Data presented by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) show that in the third quarter of this year, 26% more companies went bankrupt than in the same period of 2022. This mainly concerned companies operating in the construction, trade and car repair sectors. The increase in the number of bankrupt companies is not balanced by newly established companies. Well, there is a decline in the number of businesses established, which is the second phenomenon contributing to the reduction of the total number of companies existing on the market. It was recorded that in the last quarter of 2023, 8% fewer companies were registered than in the same period of the previous year. This applies equally to all sectors of the economy. When looking for reasons for this state of affairs, experts point to the economic slowdown.
