Fight against payment backlogs

The fight against payment backlogs is intensifying.

A year ago, the amended provisions of the Act on Counteracting Excessive Delays in Commercial Transactions and the Public Finance Act came into force. Pursuant to them, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) inspects, initiates proceedings and imposes penalties on enterprises that are in arrears with the settlement of arrears. Over the last two years, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has not initiated any new proceedings, but this does not mean that the problem of payment backlogs does not exist. In accordance with the Office’s declarations, the focus was primarily on closing previously open cases (there were approximately 100 of them) and on activities aimed at increasing awareness among entrepreneurs, which eventually ended with a warning and a call to stop bad practices (there were 130 of them last year). . However, it seems that the time of these so-called soft activities have come to an end. Well, recently, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has initiated 10 proceedings, including against the popular representative of the Leroy Merlin chain of construction stores.
