The catering industry is eaten up by debt
The financial problems of catering companies are accumulating.
Over the last few years, the catering industry has been one of the sectors strongly affected by growing problems. They were initiated by the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions it forced. This was compounded by further difficulties caused by rising inflation, which had an impact on the financial situation of Poles and translated into an increase in the costs of running a business. All this had an impact on entities providing catering services. According to the latest results of the report presented by BIG InfoMonitor, the debts of the catering industry exceeded the threshold of PLN 1 billion in March this year. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 28%. This means that nearly 7% of companies have problems with repaying their current liabilities. Moreover, the forecasts are disturbing. Well, despite the growing problems, since 2011, year to year, a several percent increase in the number of catering companies has been observed. This has now changed. Representatives of this industry identified the greatest difficulties. Nearly 80% pointed to rising employment costs, 50% to tax burdens, nearly 47% to the uncertain economic situation, 42% to reduced demand for services provided and 41% to unclear regulations. At the same time, they declared that they would take actions to minimize the effects of the identified difficulties. They announced job cuts and price increases.
