Restructuring proceedings have been initiated against the DUKA chain of stores.
In the second half of November, the Warsaw District Court opened restructuring proceedings against the DUKA chain of stores. The application to initiate restructuring proceedings was filed by representatives of the chain of stores, who believe that the successful completion of the restructuring will contribute to the further functioning of the company.
The history of the Swedish chain of DUKA stores, selling household goods and interior design elements, began in Poland in 1999. Since then, the chain has been systematically developing and gaining popularity. This resulted in the operation of an online store and 60 stationary stores located in many Polish cities. Currently, the chain’s activity has been severely limited. This is evidenced by the closure of 30% of stores. This was caused by problems with maintaining financial liquidity, which began to grow from 2023. It was at this time that several events accumulated that financially burdened the DUKA chain of stores. Firstly, in mid-2023, the chain finished repaying part of the amount (approx. PLN 1.2 million) from the subsidy received in the amount of PLN 3.5 million from the Polish Development Fund under the so-called anti-crisis shield. Secondly, it was fined PLN 1.5 million by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection for unfair practices used towards customers of the online store.
