The Carrefour grocery chain is shrinking

The number of Carrefour stores is decreasing every year.

The French chain of Carrefour grocery stores has been present on the Polish market for almost 30 years. During this time, the network has grown significantly. Hence, Polish consumers can buy goods in hypermarkets, supermarkets, wholesale and discount stores, local stores, online stores and gas stations. However, for several years the financial results recorded have not been satisfactory for the owners. This is correlated with the decrease in the number of stores with the logo of this store chain, which has been observed since at least 2021. In 2022, there were 3% fewer stores than the previous year. In turn, in 2023 it will be 9% less than in 2022. It is worth adding that this applies to small, local stores. One should certainly bear in mind the high competition among grocery store chains. According to data for 2022, Carrefour stores were moderately popular. They were definitely inferior to discount stores such as Lidl and Biedronka, where consumers were most likely to go shopping.
