High prices plunge bakeries

Energy and raw material costs have hit bakeries and pastry shops hard. The market has stagnated.

According to the data of Dun & Bradstreet, a business intelligence agency, only 84 new bakeries were registered in Poland this year. At the same time, as many as 77 such entities disappeared from the market. Tomasz Starzyk, the spokesman of Dun & Bradstreet Business Intelligence explains that today we are not dealing with a serious slowdown of the market, but with its stagnation.

The problem for bakeries is rapid increases in prices, for example of gas. As a result, in April the prices of bread increased by 28 percent. In Milan, bakers asked customers to order bread. This is supposed to make it easier for them to plan their baking and save energy and products.
