Gastronomy goes bankrupt because of energy prices

More and more restaurants are closing due to high energy prices. Government aid to such businesses will not cover them.

Wroclaw’s well-known Atrakcja restaurant closed on September 21 this year. District Saigon in the same city is also closing, as well as Azzuro from Gdansk and Wegarnik from Legnica. There are many more examples. Restaurant companies are going bankrupt because of energy bills. In the near future, the number of businesses closing for this reason may grow rapidly. Admittedly, the Ministry of Development and Technology has presented a bill to support entrepreneurs particularly hard hit by rising energy and gas prices. However, not all companies can count on the assistance. Among those who will receive it are producers of steel and non-ferrous metals, fertilizers, paper, glass, ceramic tiles and tile, rock wool, panels produced from wood and veneer sheets used in the manufacture of furniture or lining walls, among others.

These entrepreneurs will receive state aid amounting to a total of PLN 17.3 billion. It will be distributed in 2022-2024. The source of funding is the surplus accumulated in the Fund for Compensation of Indirect Emission Costs (FRPKE). The second source is a loan from the state budget in the amount of PLN 5 billion.
