The transport industry is getting more and more indebted
The debt of transport, forwarding and logistics companies is growing exponentially.
During the past six months of this year, the pace of indebtedness of companies from the transport industry has definitely accelerated. It is noted that the said debt is increasing day by day by about one million zlotys. Experts looking for the reasons for this state of affairs point to the postponed consequences caused by the coronavirus pandemic, intensified by the current economic situation. Well, on the one hand, the financial support provided under the anti-crisis shields has come to an end, and on the other hand, there has been a sharp increase in the cost of doing business. This generates problems with maintaining financial liquidity and, as a consequence, translates into delays in settling receivables. This, in turn, hinders the functioning of existing contractors who, failing to receive payment on time, cannot settle their liabilities towards their partners. In this way, the scale of payment backlogs is systematically increasing.
Worse, the forecasts are not optimistic. According to predictions, nearly 70% of transport companies negatively assess their financial situation. It is estimated that at the end of 2023 the debt of the industry will oscillate around PLN 3 billion.
